The panoramic views of the mountains from the Cross X Roads paddock are the best there is from any other site and most nights there will be campers sitting out in the serene surroundings with refreshments and cameras...seriously!
Overnight stays are $20 per vehicle at our non powered site (regardless of the number of people) and tents also welcome.
Cross X Roads also provides an ultra easy option for transport to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing which is friendly and informative. Cross X Roads provides a one way shuttle service from the Ketetahi Carpark to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing which $35 per person. Departure times from the front gate are 4.45am, 5.45am and 6.45am (other times are available on request). Although it seems ultra early, it is beneficial for those wanting to be ahead of the many others who come for the hike. It also means you are out early before the heat of the day kicks in!
On arrival, let yourself in the gate and follow the orange cones to the rear of the paddock where you will find a compostable toilet, and beautiful fresh water stream. All water is fresh from the mountain and is safe to drink.
Between 7.30 - 8.00pm one of the friendly owners or family will be down to meet and greet as well as take payment and book Tongariro Alpine Crossing Transport if required. Arrivals after 8.00pm, please phone +64 27 464 7000 . Horses roam freely but will not at anytime be a bother. There is also one very large pig however she tends to stay nearer the front of the paddock most of the time.

You will see a large yellow sign saying Cross X Roads Carparking and on either side of the sign there are large Maori Designed Poles. Go through the gate (PLEASE CLOSE BEHIND YOU) and follow the orange cones down to the rear of the paddock.
